Meta testing over 20 new AI features for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp
Meta Platforms has announced that it is testing more than 20 generative AI features for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The features include Reimagine — a system that lets users recreate images generated from text prompts using text prompts.
“Meta AI generates and shares the initial image you requested, then your friend can press and hold on the picture to riff on it with a simple text prompt and Meta AI will generate an entirely new image,” said Meta.
Reimagine builds on Imagine, Meta’s AI-powered image generator, and the company is expanding access to Imagine to more users in the US via a dedicated website.
The standalone experience lets users generate images with technology from Emu — Meta’s image foundation model.
The company is also rolling out Reels in Meta AI chats, letting users visualise certain topics or queries.
“Sometimes it’s not enough to simply read about something — you want to see it or experience it through more than text. Reels let you do just that,” says Meta.
“And now, we’re starting to roll out Reels in Meta AI chats, too.”
Meta provided the example of a group of friends planning a trip to Tokyo. They can ask Meta AI to recommend places to visit and share Reels along with its recommendations.
Other new features include using Meta AI to generate birthday greetings for friends, introductions for your profiles, or AI-generated images to post on Facebook.
