Bill Gates the richest again

BILL Gates has recovered his spot at the top of the US money heap, displacing his friend, investor Warren Buffett, as America’s richest person — for the 15th year in a row.

Forbes magazine’s latest list reveals that with 57-billion (R468-billion) net worth, the Microsoft founder again leads the list of 400 richest individuals in the world’s wealthiest country.

He displaced Buffett, who briefly held the position this year, but whose Berkshire Hathaway investment group’s shares have slipped 15 percent since February. He is now worth only 50-billion.

Forbes’s “ golden 400s” combined net worth rose only 30-billion, or two percent, to 1.57-trillion — with 31 new members entering the ultra-rich club.

A notable new arrival was Mark Zuckerberg, 24, founder of social networking site Facebook. Forbes estimates his worth at 1.5-billion. Forbes cautioned that the list does not take into account the most recent setbacks on the stock market.
