Office 365 Personal price, launch date for SA
Office 365 Personal will launch in South Africa during the coming months at an expected recommended retail price of R649-R699 per year, a spokesperson for Microsoft SA has said.
Microsoft announced the Personal edition of Office 365 on Friday, 14 March 2014, saying that it would roll out “this Spring” [February to May 2014] and would cost an estimated $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
A footnote to the announcement said that these are estimated prices, and the retail price and will ultimately be determined by resellers.
This new Personal license lets users run Office on a single Mac or Windows PC, and on tablet computers.
The existing Office 365 Home Premium package (which is to be renamed to simply “Office 365 Home”) offers 5 simultaneous PC installations and 5 simultaneous mobile device installations.
In the US the Home license costs $99.99 per year, or $9.99 per month, while in South Africa it is available for R749.99 per year or R74.99 per month.
Both Office 365 Personal and Home will include 60 minutes of Skype calling per month and 20GB of additional OneDrive storage, Microsoft said.
*Update: A previous version of this article quoted Microsoft SA as saying that the launch date of Office 365 Personal in South Africa will be 15 April 2014. Microsoft SA has since told MyBroadband that the launch will be “in the coming months” and that a specific day was not confirmed yet.
