Uber driver arrested for assault
An Uber driver was arrested in Melbourne Saturday after an alleged indecent assault on a 19-year-old female passenger on New Year’s Eve, police said.
Victorian state police said the 31-year-old man would be charged with sex offences and unlicensed driving.
Uber is a private taxi service operated through a smartphone app that has recently been criticised for a lack of checking on drivers.
Uber drivers in the state of Victoria must be registered, undergo background screening and be licensed to drive a commercial vehicle.
