Watch South Africa’s richest CEOs sleeping on the street in a cardboard box

Over 200 of South Africa’s richest CEOs spent the night on the streets of Sandton on 18 June, in a bid to raise money for charity.

The initiative is part of the international CEO SleepOut campaign, which was launched in SA in April.

Participants included tech company CEOs, such as Vodacom’s Shameel Joosub; Blue Label Telecoms’ Brett and Mark Levy; Telkom’s CEO Sipho Maseko; MultiChoice’s Imtiaz Patel; DFA’s Gustav Smit; BCX’s Isaac Mopathlane; and Eskom’s Brian Molefe.

The CEOs had to raise R100,000 each to take part in the event, with the money donated to Girls and Boys Town. Close to R25 million was raised overall, thanks to additional contributions by the CEOs.

How long did they brave the winter night? 18:00 until 06:00 on 19 June.
