Communications minister slams DG's claims

The Minister of Communications, Siphiwe Nyanda believes his Director General (DG), Mamodupi Mohlala, has now crossed the line if the allegations contained in today’s Sunday Independent are correct.

The Ministry said that they reject the “baseless and fabricated” allegations that the DG’s contract was termininated because she laid criminal charges about tenders with the Auditor General and the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“This attitude can’t continue unchallenged,” says Minister Gen (Ret) Siphiwe Nyanda.

The termination of the contract of the DG had nothing to do with tenders but everything to do with her conduct, processes and systems, the ministry confirmed.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, they will verify the basis of these allegations and where possible they will take firm action against those who continue to disregard rules and regulations that govern the department.

“We want to put on record that the department has never been approached by the SAPS nor the Auditor General’s office on the allegations as claimed by a so called letter sent to the SAPS and the Auditor General. Until we are approached by the SAPS the Ministry reaffirms its willingness to avail our staff members if they are needed by the law enforcement agencies,” the ministry’s statement said.
