US Air Force breaks magnetic levitation world speed record – video

The US Air Force has broken the world speed record for a vehicle aided by magnetic levitation, according to a report by Engadget.

The 846th Test Squadron at the Holloman Air Force Base got their test vehicle to 1,018km/h using super-conducting magnets and rockets.

“What we plan to do after this test is refine the design of the sled itself,” said Shawn Morgenstern, commander of the 846th Test Squadron.

“We want to look at some lighter materials and continue to see what kind of capability we can get out of this system.”

The video below shows the record being broken.
