Movie prices in South Africa: Ster-Kinekor vs Nu Metro

The annual movie ticket price increases recently kicked in at Ster-Kinekor and Nu Metro, with prices going up by over 9% in some instances.

If you take into account that Nu Metro has done away with its intermediate pricing tiers for certain cinemas, its prices increased even more.

Prices of 3D movies at its formerly-cheaper theatres went up by 20%, while ticket prices at Nu Metro in GrandWest increased by over 30%.

The table below compares the cheapest and most expensive ticket prices of the two big cinema chains. Ster-Kinekor’s intermediate pricing is shown as “tier 2”.

Ster-Kinekor’s cheapest cinema complex is in Sterland, while Nu Metro’s is in Worcester.
