2010 has been a year of many positive developments in the South African broadband, telecommunications and IT environments.

In 2010 broadband consumers enjoyed the introduction of affordable uncapped ADSL offerings from MWEB, Cell C launched their 21 Mbps HSPA+ network accompanied by aggressive promotional mobile broadband prices and some service providers even started offering free ADSL accounts to attract customers.

This was also the year which saw the communications minister Siphiwe Nyanda losing his job, Telkom facing a change in leadership yet again and the launch of Telkom’s brand new cellular operator 8ta.

2010 saw Android came into its own with numerous smartphones running on the Google mobile OS being launched, competing against the much hyped iPhone 4 which was also launched in 2010.
