Former Intel CEO Paul Otellini has passed away in his sleep at age 66. Otellini was born in San Francisco on 12 October 1950.
He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of San Francisco in 1972 and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974.
He joined Intel in 1974 and held the positions of general manager of the Peripheral Components Operation and the Folsom Microcomputer Division. In 1989 he became CEO Andy Grove’s chief of staff.
Otellini was chief operating officer from 2002 to 2005 and became CEO in 2005, where he served until he retired in 2013.
“We are deeply saddened by Paul’s passing,” said Intel CEO Brian Krzanich.
“He was the relentless voice of the customer in a sea of engineers, and he taught us that we only win when we put the customer first.”
Otellini is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
