Eskom under fire from Num
The National Union of Mineworkers (Num) has taken the power utility Eskom to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) over what the union called "unilateral decision-making and implementation", it said on Monday.
Last week, Eskom said it had revamped its executive management structure and created new positions as it struggled to meet unprecedented energy demands following the temporary closure of mines two weeks ago.
"The Num is a major stakeholder at Eskom and should have been consulted when mines are shut or when such restructuring takes place," said Frans Baleni, the Num's general secretary.
Num has taken Eskom to the CCMA over its unilateral implementation of a grading system called TASK and hoped that Eskom would correct "its evil and single-handed" way of conducting business, the union said.
