Oppikoppi 2011 streaming worldwide
Antfarm, a South African video streaming service provider, will stream the Oppikoppi music festival over the Internet, the company announced in a press statement today (4 August 2011).
Andrew Aitken, a director of Antfarm, said that this will be the third year they provide video streaming services for Oppikoppi which is held near the mining town of Northam in the Limpopo province every year.
Aitken explained that there is no Internet connectivity at the farm on which Oppikoppi is held, so they will be using a mobile VSAT [Very Small Aperture Terminal] connection to stream the video from the venue.
Video will be streamed to four international video distribution platforms: Ustream, Justin.tv, Dailymotion and Livestream.
According to Aitken they will also be distributing the video feed through the Oppikoppie Facebook page, Antfarm’s website, and local content portals such as howzit.msn.com.

Oppikoppi mania is about to hit South Africa again, with this year’s video streaming of the music festival being broadcast both locally and abroad by Antfarm, one of the country’s leading video streaming service providers.
Oppikoppi is an annual music festival held in the Limpopo Province near the mining town of Northam and features a wide range of local musicians who perform on multiple stages to the delight of thousands of fans who ‘trek’ to the Northam venue every year.
Andrew Aitken, a director of Antfarm, said it will be the third year that his company is providing the technology to handle the video streaming.
“Oppikoppi has a large fan base and every year thousands of converts spend a fun-filled weekend under the stars watching and listening to their favorite bands. Although there is no Internet connectivity at the farm venue, we will be making use of a mobile VSAT connection in order to facilitate the video streaming, which will also be streamed via four international video distribution platforms – meaning this event will be broadcast worldwide this year in real-time, via video.”
The international video distribution platforms include Ustream, Justin.tv, Dailymotiom and Livestream.
Aitken said his company will also distribute the content via Oppikoppi’s Facebook page, Antfarm’s web-site, and a number of local content portals, including howzit.msn.com
Some of the musicians featured at this year’s event include Van Coke Kartel, Die Antwoord, Tumi and the Volume, Tommy Gun, Vinny Da Vinci, Tidal Waves, The Lise Chris Band, The December Streets, The Black Hotels, Southern Gypsey Queen, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Sibot, Shannon Hope, Richard the Third, Only When it Rains, P.H. Fat and Planet Joy.
The festival runs from the 5th – the 7th August, with the organisers expecting well in excess of 15 000 people to attend.
