Rice University demonstrates full-duplex wireless technology
Professor of electrical and computer engineering Ahutosh Sabharwal has detailed the new full-duplex technology which required a minimal amount of new technology in mobile devices and on networks.
Full-duplex technology would allow wireless devices to send and receive information on the same frequency, an improvement over current wireless technology which requires two separate frequencies to send and receive.
Sabharwal was quick to note however that the new full-duplex technology would require new wireless standards to be implemented, noting that the earliest possible inception of the technology would be in next generation 5G networks. Providers are currently investing in implementing and expanding 4G/LTE network, so full-duplex wireless speeds for the masses are some years away.
