As Research in Motion posts poor second quarter earnings results, co-CEO Jim Balsillie told the press that the company plans to offer price cuts on the PlayBook in the coming weeks. The price cuts will come in the form of rebates for general consumers, while an incentive program is on the cards for enterprise sales.
Balsillie added that there will be a major software update for the PlayBook, also within the next few weeks.
During its earnings report on Thursday (15 September), RIM reported that it sold just 200,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets during the quarter ending in August, after having shipped 500,000 units during this year’s first quarter.
This figure was far below the Wall Street expectations that the company would ship 700,000 units in the quarter ending in August.
