Pre-sales success for iPhone 4S
Despite very vocal disappointment regarding the specifications of the iPhone 4S, the device has gone on to set a pre-sales record with U.S. mobile carrier AT&T, selling more than 200,000 units within the first 12 hours of pre-order availability.
As of Friday evening, delivery estimates for the iPhone 4S on Apple’s online store changed from “14 October” to “1 – 2 weeks”, indicating that the stock for the first round of sales has already been depleted.
Analysts have high expectations for Apple’s latest smartphone as well as the older 3GS and vanilla iPhone 4 models, both of which saw price drops after the announcement of the 4S.
Wedge Partners’ analyst Brian Blair estimates that Apple shipped between 24 and 25 million iPhones in the September quarter, and expects this figure to rise to 27 million units in the December quarter.
