Siri on iPhone 4 not likely
According to Steven Troughton-Smith, an iOS enthusiast who hacked the code of Apple’s digital assistant software Siri, the only thing stopping consumers using the application on their regular iPhone 4 is server side authentication.
Siri uses server-side software to determine user requests, which means if you’re stuck without internet coverage, the Siri application will not function. In the case of the iPhone 4 version of Siri, the software functions as if the device cannot connect to the internet. This is because Apple servers refuse to authenticate iPhone 4-issued commands.
Apple has been notorious in the past for limiting user actions if they will affect the performance of i-devices, so it could be that they don’t want to ruin the experience of Siri on the older, slower iPhone 4. However, more likely is that Apple wants its latest “killer feature” to remain an iPhone 4S exclusive, giving consumers a reason to upgrade.
