iPhone 4S uses Samsung core
According to a report by Chipworks, a firm that specialises in reverse engineering and patent infringement analysis of semiconductors and electronic systems, the A5 chip found in the iPhone 4S is made by Samsung.
The A5 chip found in the iPhone 4S is a 45-nanometre dual-core part, and is nearly identical to the one found in the iPad 2.
The Apple-branded A5 is a system-on-chip (SoC) that includes the main processor, graphics section and system memory. The RAM found on the SoC is also made by Samsung according to a teardown of the iPhone 4S by iFixit, though in some cases RAM is supplied by Japanese tech firm Elpida.
