Asus unveils Transformer prime tablet PC
Talking at the AsiaD conference, chairman of Asus Jonney Shih uncovered the company’s next generation tablet PC, the Transformer Prime.
Shih confirmed that the Transformer Prime will feature a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset, a 10-inch display, mini-HDMI port, a 14.5 hour battery life, and an SD card slot.
Like the original Asus Transformer, the new model is compatible with a docking station which functions as a keyboard, extends battery life and offers more connectivity options.
Shih also mentioned that the tablet is just 8.3mm thick, though he did not specify whether this was with or without the docking station.
The Transformer Prime will probably ship with the Android Honeycomb operating system, although Shih did confirm that the newer Ice Cream Sandwich update to Android would be available by the end of the year, or “perhaps earlier.”
There is no confirmed shipping date for the Transformer Prime, though Shih expects more news surrounding the tablet to surface at the official reveal of the device on 9 November.
