A new, low-cost tablet has been released by ViewSonic, dubbed the ViewPad 7e.

Retailing for $199.99 (R1577.97), the tablet is priced to compete with the highly-anticipated Amazon Kindle Fire announced earlier this year.

The ViewPad 7e will run the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and has the following features:

  • 7 inch 800 x 600 display
  • 3D Holographic UI
  • 1GHz processor
  • 4GB of onboard storage
  • micro-HDMI port
  • 3 megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera
  • MicroSD card slot supporting up to 32GB cards
  • 802.11b/g/n WiFi support

The ViewPad will be available in the U.S from the end of October, though there is no word on whether the Tablet will make its way to South African shores.
