E-volo makes multicopter aviation history
German engineers at e-volo have successfully completed the first manned flight of an electric multicopter.
The Multicopter uses multiple mini helicopters arranged in a square in sets of four configured to achieve lift.
In the centre of the invention sat Thomas Senkel, a graduate physicist who had previously completed unmanned tests on the unit before attempting a manned test late in October. Senkel commented, “The flight characteristics are good natured. Without any steering input it would just hover there on the spot.”
The flight lasted one minute and 30 seconds, and could be the future of modern transportation or UAV reconnaissance devices.
