Anonymous calls off OpCartel
The Latin American arm of online hacktivist group Anonymous, who go by the name Anonymous IberoAmerica, have called off operations that planned to expose members of the Zetas narcotics cartel.
After one of their own members was kidnapped by the Zetas, Anonymous IberoAmerica decided to expose members of the narcotics cartel but have since called a halt as the hostage was released.
The released hostage apparently delivered a message to other Anonymous members, “The Zetas will kill ten people for every name of a Zeta associate released by Anonymous.”
Anonymous members launched operation OpCartel last week after claiming that a member had been kidnapped during an “Operation Paperstorm” protest in Veracruz. The hacktivist group threatened to release names and addresses of taxi drivers, journalists, and members of law enforcement agencies associated with the Cartel.
