Tablet pricing set to drop in 2012

According to Digitimes analyst, James Wang, end-user pricing on tablet PCs is set to drop significantly in 2012 as competition increases among vendors.

Wang’s news report suggests that the average price of a 10-inch tablet PC will drop to between $299 and $399 next year, and 7-inch models will retail for between $199 and $249.

Wang also speculates that Amazon will drop the price of the Kindle Fire down to $149 to remain competitive.

The report also detailed eReader sales next year, and suggests that device shipments will grow by 31.4 percent in 2012 to around 28.9 million units.

Wang also expects to see a price drop in eReaders next year, and predicts that Amazon’s successful eReader could sell for as little as $49.
