Google cuts more experimental services

As part of the company’s “off-season spring cleaning”, Google will be putting an end to another set of experimental projects according to a post on the Google blog.

These projects include:

  • Google Bookmarks Lists
  • Google Friend Connect
  • Google Gears
  • Google Search Timeline
  • Google Wave
  • Knol
  • Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal (RE<C)

Not all of the services will end at the same time however. Google Bookmarks lists will end on 19 December 2011, Google Friend Connect will close on 1 March 2012 to all non-Blogger sites, Google Gears stops working on 1 December 2011, and will be unavailable for download sometime later in the month.

Google Search Timeline is in the process of being removed; while Google Wave will become read-only on 31 January 2012, and will be turned off completely on 30 April 2012. Knol will work until 30 April 2012, after which it will only allow users to download their Knols to a file or migrate them to WordPress. Finally, the (RE<C) project has been terminated after Google published their results.
