Explicit content on government road safety site
The Western Cape provincial government has launched a website dedicated to increasing road safety awareness this festive season – featuring graphic videos and images of road accidents.
The Safely Home campaign was launched by Minister for Transport and Public works, Robin Carlisle, back in 2009, with the goal of halving the death-rate on Western Cape roads by 2014.
The website is the latest addition to this campaign, and features graphic scenes of road accidents caught by CCTV cameras monitoring roads in the province, as well as images of the aftermath of car accidents.
Carlisle said the footage had been carefully selected, with next of kin of the victims having given their permission, according to an EWN report.
The site contains graphic material and is not for sensitive viewers.
