RIM loses BBX trademark ruling

BlackBerry

Basis International has been granted a temporary restraining order by a federal court in Albuquerque prohibiting BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) from using the term “BBX” to describe its new operating system.

After the case, the court found that “the BBX mark is identical to the mark which RIM is allegedly using to present its BBX product.”

The new BBX platform was unveiled by RIM at a company conference in October, and combines elements of the older BlackBerry operating system with the newer QNX software.

RIM representatives could not be reached for comment on the ruling.
