Intel partners with French NFC maker
Intel has signed a deal with French firm Inside Secure, a Near Field Communications (NFC) chip maker, who will provide the company with NFC chips for “future devices”.
“We are highly interested in NFC but we are not announcing any product plans at this time,” according to an Intel spokeswoman. She also noted that Intel may include Inside Secure’s technology into Intel’s own future reference designs. This was backed up by Charles Walton, chief operating officer at Inside Secure, noting that they will provide Intel with chips, as well as software and “other technology”.
NFC chips will allow applications such as Google Wallet to reach consumer level usage, a project still in its infancy thanks to limited handset support, and limited support by mobile networks.
