Pentagon approves Android device for staff use

While BlackBerry may have been the platform of choice for Department of Defence previously thanks to its robust security features, the rise of Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS have forced the Pentagon to evaluate these operating systems.

Apple’s iOS is still awaiting clearance; however Android has recently been approved for staff use, with some caveats. Other restrictions include web browsing, which must go through a Department of Defence proxy server. Classified information is also limited; it cannot be sent, received or accessed by Android handsets.
