Apple becomes world’s eighth most valuable brand

According to Interbrand’s Best Global Brands of 2011 report, Apple has broken into the top 10 to become the eighth most valuable brand in the world.

The Cupertino-based company jumped 9 spots to place in the top 10 for the first time in the company’s history. Year-on-year Apple brand value jumped by 58 percent to settle at an estimated worth of $33.49 billion (R270.43 billion).

Apple saw the greatest growth of all the brands listed, as well as the second highest jump in rankings.

Other notable technology companies on the list include Amazon, who jumped by 10 spots to take spot number 26. Their year-on-year value increased by 32 percent.

Samsung jumped two spots to take 17th overall, with a 20 percent increase at an estimated brand value of $23.43 billion (R189.19billion).

The top 10 brands were:

  1. Coca-Cola
  2. IBM
  3. Microsoft
  4. Google
  5. General Electric
  6. McDonald’s
  7. Intel
  8. Apple
  9. Disney
  10. Hewlett Packard
