Kim Dotcom bail to be overturned?

Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom won a small measure of comfort last week when a New Zealand court released him on bail, noting that with all of his assets seized, he did not pose a flight risk.

However, prosecutors were not happy with the court’s decision, and have decided to appeal, wanting Dotcom placed back in custody.

Dotcom stands accused of operating MegaUpload which, the US government claims, is one of the Web’s biggest criminal copyright operations.

Dotcom’s initial request for bail was rejected twice, before a judge ruled that prosecutors hadn’t sufficiently proven that the accused was a flight risk.

The U.S. government has been vocal in its opposition of bail for Dotcom, noting that he may have money separate from his seized assets, and that he has previously tried to evade prosecution.
