Raspberry Pi sells out in under a day
Despite being the size of a credit card, the $35 (R261.66) Raspberry Pi Linux computer is already enjoying huge sales success.
The device became available for pre-order on Wednesday (29 February) and was sold out within a few hours.
The single-board device features a 700MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, an SD card slot, two USB ports, an Ethernet port, and HDMI/RCA outputs.
The Pi is capable of running games such as Quake III and can stream 1080p HD video; however the main focus of the device is expected to be implementation in educational institutions where cost has previously been too great a hurdle to overcome.
Meanwhile the cheaper Raspberry model scheduled for release later this year has received an unexpected specification bump. The model A Raspberry Pi will now ship with a full 256MB of memory rather than the original 128MB.
