LulzSec panics after hacker betrayal

Anonymous/LulzSec was dealt a massive blow last week, when one of their own top hackers betrayed them to the FBI.
Panic spread throughout Anonymous IRC channels in the wake of revelations that Hector “Sabu” Monsegu had become an informant for the FBI.
Despite this, members urged the rest to stay calm.
“Don’t panic…the lulzsec guys got infiltrated and were caught for HACKING not for being member [sic] of anonymous … anonymous is too big to go after, and the charges would be too small to actually do something … but a good lesson for the sql injectors out there : don’t boast about anything and trust NOONE … stay ANONYMOUS!”
Meanwhile Anonymous group members are trying desperately to distance themselves from attacks that may lead to their own prosecution. Among the attacks that Anonymous members are denying involvement in is the hacking of Stratfor.
“Hackers claiming to be Anonymous have distorted this truth in order to further their hidden agenda, and some Anons have taken the bait,” claimed some members of the hacktivist collective. “Stratfor analysts are widely considered to be extremely unbiased. Anonymous does not attack media sources.”
“Avunit”, a former member of LulzSec, is feeling the pressure of worrying about whether his identity and role in the hacking has also been revealed to authorities.
Avunit left LulzSec long before the group’s official disbandment late last year, but he may still face charges related to his role in the group’s activities.
In an IRC chat with Ars Technica, Avunit says he is a “bag of nerves” and is preparing to leave the Anonymous universe completely. “[I’m] on a new laptop I bought today and everything else that could be incriminating has literally been burned,” said Avunit.
