RIM restricts PlayBook to avoid “chaotic cesspool” of Android

BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) will remove the ability to sideload applications on the BlackBerry PlayBook in an attempt to curb piracy.
This is according to Alec Saunders, vice president of developer relations at RIM, who says that after the next software update PlayBook owners will only be able to download and install applications through BlackBerry App World.
“Piracy is a huge problem for Android devs, and we don’t want to duplicate the chaotic cesspool of Android Market,” said Saunders.
RIM claims that more than 25 percent of Android apps are downloaded illegally, and wants to avoid the same happening on the PlayBook.
While the company would be removing sideloading applications for consumers, Saunders was “pretty sure we’ve got a solution for devs” to be able to install and test their applications.
