Skype exploit reveals your IP address

A security vulnerability in Skype, which allows a third-party script to reveals a user’s remote and local IP address, has been discovered, according to GHacks.

The script, which was posted to online code hosting service, Github, allows users to lookup the IP of any online Skype contact. It then initiates the “add new contact process”, but cancels the operation before it completes.

The log file of the script will then display the local and remote IP of the requested Skype user, even if that user is not on a friends list.

IP addresses can reveal the location of Skype users, as well as which Internet Service Provider (ISP) that user is connected to.
