Apple is gearing up to launch an iPad mini tablet PC in October 2012, according to a report by news site iMore.

The site, which has previously reported accurate information about unannounced Apple devices, says that the device will launch in October for between $200 and $250 (R1,609.08 and R2,011.34).

The report goes on to state the device will look exactly like the current iPad 3, only smaller. It will also feature the same 2,048 x 1,536 resolution as the new iPad, despite having a smaller display.

Previous reports indicate the new tablet will feature a 7.85 inch display.

The iPad mini will be the first time Apple has strayed from the 10-inch class of tablets, and will be a direct competitor to devices such as the Amazon Kindle in both form factor and price.
