iPad mini gets new touch technology
The latest rumours surrounding the unconfirmed Apple iPad mini is that the device will be ultra thin, thanks to new touch screen technology.
Digitimes cites anonymous “industry sources” in its latest report on the iPad mini, who claim that, in addition to being thinner, the new mini iPad’s screen and touch technology is cheaper than previous technologies, allowing Apple to cut costs.
Cost-cutting is vital if the company wants to hit the rumoured $200 to $250 price-point and maintain margins on the device.
The report also noted that Apple has contracted Nitto Denko to supply touch panels that use the company’s “G/F2″ thin-film technology. Nissha Printing and TPK Holding will build the 7.85 inch touch screens for the new device, the report said.
Finally, the sources also noted that 7 to 10 million iPad mini tablets are expected to ship in 2012 after the rumoured October launch date.
