Warning: mobile banking app users beware
Mobile security is a serious field, and users need to wake up and protect themselves, according to a security expert who advises organisations including Toyota, Merrill Lynch and the Bulgarian government.
Neal O’Farrell, executive director of the non-profit Identity Theft Council raised the issue of mobile security at a business event in San Francisco this week.
He noted, “There were more data breaches than U.S. residents last year and more cases of identity theft than just about all other crimes combined.”
O’Farrell continued, saying that, unless users encrypt their mobile devices, they are asking for trouble.
He also touched on the topic of mobile banking apps, saying “Eight out of ten mobile banking apps have security flaws, but Apple and the banks don’t want you to know that.”
“I’ll wait another 20 years to stick my toe in that pond,” he finished.
