Apple/Samsung settlement talks fail
The chief executives of Apple and Samsung have failed to reach a settlement agreement in an ongoing lawsuit concerning mobile patents.
According to a report by The Korea Times, a Samsung official noted that the two companies could find no clear agreement during the talks.
Both companies are refusing to budge from their demands. Samsung wants Apple to pay royalties for using the Korean company’s wireless transmission technology. Meanwhile, Apple insists that Samsung copied the design of their iPhone smartphone.
Both companies have previously stated they would like to avoid legal proceedings against each other; however, if no settlement can be reached, the patent dispute will end up in court in July 2012.
Apple is currently the largest buyer of Samsung components for mobile devices, after it agreed to buy $11 billion (R92.26 billion) worth of LCD screens, memory chips and other components from Samsung in 2012.
