Google Voice lets users screen calls

Google’s phone service app, Google Voice, can now screen calls prior to answering.

The new update allows the app to prompt callers to state their name, and thereafter only allowing the call to go through to the receiver’s phone.

The added feature is primarily aimed at screening unknown and private numbers.

“Many users have asked us for controls aimed at people who are NOT in their address book,” Google software engineer Tom Ford wrote on the Google Voice blog. “So today, we’re adding two groups of callers for Google Voice users.”

The update also allows users to customise their greetings and voice mails for each contact or group.

Google also recently announced that their Google+ ‘circles’ feature is making it’s way onto Google Voice, allowing users to group their contacts into respective ‘circles’, such as family, friends and acquaintances.
