Microsoft bans HTC from making Windows 8 tablets

HTC is being shut out of Windows 8 tablet development due to a lack of experience in the tablet market.

According to Bloomberg sources, Microsoft’s decision to lock HTC out of Windows 8 tablet development came after HTC’s dismal tablet sales. The software giant is worried that HTC may “diminish and tarnish” the Windows 8 experience.

HTC engineers were reportedly interested in building a Windows 8 device with a customised home screen; however Microsoft refused, and will instead work with other vendors that have achieved higher tablet sales.

HTC may release a Windows 8 tablet device, but only with the second wave of releases sometime next year.
