GTS starting to roll out Broadband services

GTS said that their new GoalNet broadband offerings, ranging from R 189-00 to R 500-00 per month depending on usage allowances, are currently available in a few specific locations only, but that they are in negotiations with municipalities to extend their footprint.

Municipalities dragging their feet

The company said that while they are ready to roll out their BPL offerings in many new locations, they are hamstrung by municipalities dragging their feet on giving them permission for the commercial rollout of this technology over the power grid.

“The GTS GoalNet services including telephony, internet and surveillance solutions are normally provided by utilizing existing power lines, infrastructure that is owned by certain authorities. GTS has for a number of years lobbied various municipalities and authorities to allow access to this infrastructure so that GTS can provide affordable connectivity for the betterment of communities,” GTS said.

“To date, the municipality of Heidelberg has give us authorization and GTS is currently in the process of rolling out phase 1 of a city wide Goal Network (GoalNet). The municipality of Nelspruit followed shortly thereafter and the planning phase for Nelspruit has started.”

“Ongoing discussions are being held with Tshwane and other municipalities who had previously indicated their support of this project. GTS welcomes enquiries from other municipalities who would like to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to improve communications infrastructure in their areas,” said GTS.

GTS however pointed out that residents in gated villages and estates can contact them directly with requests for their services after which they will approach the relevant authorities for permission.

“GTS has connected selected estates and complexes where permission has been granted by the authorities for that specific site. GTS welcomes enquiries from developers, Home Owner Associations and Body Corporates of estates and complexes within the Tshwane, Durban, Heidelberg, Nelspruit and JHB areas,” said GTS.

ADSL offerings

GTS said that their current ADSL offering, an unshaped service raging from R 92-00 for 1 GB to R 1 237-00 for 20 GB, is a SAIX based offering and will be complimented by a far cheaper shaped offering in the near future.

GTS said that their shaped offering will definitely come in at rates below the current ADSL pricing from competing ISPs.

“The Goal ADSL and Goal Dial-Up services have been launched with the intention to provide affordable connectivity to consumers nationally. Unshaped ADSL is currently available and will be followed in the next 2 to 3 months by our Shaped ADSL offering. Pricing has been designed to offer savings of 7% to 15% for entry level ADSL hard capped packages and exceptionally attractive savings of 25% to 45% for larger 10GB and 20GB hard capped packages,” GTS said.

The company has also launched their GoalNet Community call and GoalNet All call services, promising savings on phone calls to their subscribers.

These services will however only be available to their GoalNet BPL subscribers.
