Beware of smishing

Like phishing (spam emails asking for personal information), smishing is growing significantly across the globe.

According to security firm, Cloudmark, smishing is the use of SMS text messages to scam users and obtain confidential information.

There has been a 400 percent increase in unique SMS spam campaigns in the first half of the year, with over 30 million messages sent.

Cloudmark suggest ways to protect yourself from smishing scams; notably, do not click or open any links contained in supsicious text messages, and never respond to such messages with any information.
