Samsung adds iPhone 5 to infringement list

Samsung has included Apple’s recently-released iPhone 5 to its list of patent-infringing devices.

The new claim is part of a countersuit against Apple, adding to the two companies’ list of patent trials around the world.

In the filing, Samsung accuses the iPhone 5 of infringing on the same patents as other Apple devices; namely, a number of 3G and feature-specific patents.

“We have always preferred to compete in the marketplace with our innovative products, rather than in courtrooms. However, Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition. Under these circumstances, we have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights,” Samsung said in a statement.

Samsung was also dealt some good news when the sales ban was lifted on the company’s Galaxy Tab 10.1.
