MyBroadband speed test: bigger and better

MyBroadband has revamped its South African internet connection testing platform, offering more speed test server locations and adding a speed test result image link.

The biggest change is the move of the whole platform to Teraco and NAPAfrica’s vendor neutral data centres (New MyBroadband speed test here).

MyBroadband’s speed test platform has become a popular way for people and companies to test their broadband performance, with over 80,000 monthly speed tests.

Some broadband providers and ISPs had concerns that MyBroadband’s speed test was not hosted in a neutral environment.

Teraco and NAPAfrica shared these concerns, and offered to sponsor both the server hardware and bandwidth to move MyBroadband’s speed test platform to a neural environment.

As an independent, vendor agnostic data centre environment, Teraco is providing a truly equal playing field to ensure accurate broadband speed test results.

The NAPAfrica Internet eXchange (IX) points, which are located in the Teraco data environments, further offers direct links to the MyBroadband speed test servers.

This means that all broadband providers and ISPs can directly link to the MyBroadband speed test, ensuring the best possible results.

Networks which connect directly to the MyBroadband speed test via NAPAfrica have a 1Gbps connection to the speed test environment and no third party network involvement.

Networks which are not directly connected via NAPAfrica will go via a 100Mbps per network link, which has been donated.

“The NAP Africa community would welcome the participation of all large players already located within Teraco onto the speed test environment,” said Teraco CEO Lex van Wyk.

As a colocation client within a Teraco facility there is no cost to connect to the speedtest server via NAP Africa, van Wyk added.

Hetzner will continue to manage the servers to ensure the highest service levels and best uptime possible.
