SEACOM network configuration continues

SEACOM recently announced that it is on track to finalize its own link through the Red Sea and over Egypt by the end of June 2010. “With this piece of the mesh finally in place, another critical alternative for traffic routing will become available thereby further reducing the impact of network outages for African users,” SEACOM said.

Over the weekend SEACOM reconfigured the branching unit in the Arabian Sea (to add the link to Egypt) and the recalibration of the power feeding equipment to support single end feeding to Egypt from South Africa.

Yesterday the company said that the cable ship in charge of the reconfiguration of the Arabian Sea’s branching unit is on schedule with the final splicing underway.  “We continue to monitor the ship’s activities closely and remains confident that no downtime will be experienced by customers,” said SEACOM.

SEACOM today announced that the next stage in its cable network configuration is scheduled for later tonight with the splicing between the Mumbai and the Red Sea legs.

“There is no expected downtime but there may be some traffic slowdown in power alignments. The configuration is expected to be completed by 2 June 2010,” SEACOM said.

When complete and fully operational, the new network configuration will enable SEACOM customers to experience improved services through the use of the shortest route to Europe.  SEACOM currently connects via India and onwards to Egypt and Europe through the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable.
