IS commits to overcoming SEACOM challenges

Internet Solutions (IS) has confirmed that while certain clients experience intermittent international connectivity problems during business hours, the company is doing everything in its power to provide alternative solutions where possible.

Business clients remain unaffected by the SEACOM outage at this stage as they are currently running on IS’s redundant SAT-3 path.

“IS is working closely with SEACOM and is aggressively seeking alternative options in order to restore connectivity to Clients,” the company said in a press statement.

“IS managed to supply a partial restoration of temporary bandwidth for International Consumer DSL and Velocity services. Users may experience intermittent, degraded performance internationally.”  IS does not explicitly state what this solution is, but it may well be capacity on TENET’s network.

IS gives the following guidelines regarding the impact of the SEACOM outage:

  1. Business DSL services are unaffected as these services are running on the redundant SAT-3 cable system.
  2. Consumer clients have been affected by the outage and as such their services are intermittent.
  3. Local bandwidth connectivity has been and is still available to all users at all times
  4. IS has provisioned users to access stable international bandwidth activity after hours, where capacity allows.

“IS is actively looking for short and medium term solutions to these challenges. IS is engaging with international carriers whose cable systems will be landing in South Africa within the next 18 months. It is anticipated that this will provide a cost-effective alternative international path to provide affordable redundancy,” IS concluded.
