MWEB, IS to restore SEACOM bandwidth this weekend
The SEACOM outage which started on 5 July affected numerous consumers, especially customers of Internet Solutions and MWEB. Good news is that these two Internet Service Providers are set to restore their full SEACOM this weekend.
SEACOM today announced that that all repairs to the submarine cable have been successfully completed, and that their “technical teams will continue to work closely with customers to reinstate their SEACOM traffic to pre-outage configurations whilst an extensive investigation will take place to determine the exact cause of the outage.”
The Tertiary Education Network (TENET) has already cut over to SEACOM from their previous solutions, and said in a statement this morning that normal international service to TENET institutions was restored at 06h30 on 23 July 2010 and that the service is currently stable.
MWEB yesterday announced that they are set to start using SEACOM bandwidth again from last night, but SEACOM came online later than expected which meant that this cut over was postponed until later tonight.
“With all the changes we had to do on our side and waiting for the routing tables to update, it would have taken us into the middle of peak morning traffic. We did not want to take the risk of disruption over this period,” explains MWEB CEO Rudi Jansen.
“We still have our full redundant bandwidth in place and as a result we decided to postpone the cut–over to a quieter time to ensure we cause as little as possible interruption. “
MWEB is likely to cut over to SEACOM bandwidth at around 23:00 tonight.
Internet Solutions (IS) said that they are currently testing SEACOM’s restored services, and will start to migrate their clients onto their ‘previous’ SEACOM paths during the course of the weekend.
“IS is currently testing SEACOM, however will only migrate clients onto the previous path during the course of the weekend during a planned cut over, in order to ensure that clients are not at risk of losing services during office hours,” said Internet Solutions’ Sean Nourse.
All Internet Solutions’ clients are set to use SEACOM bandwidth again on Monday morning.
