Altech Technology Concepts goes tier one
Altech Technology Concepts was founded in 1999 and has focused on providing companies with internet access, IT support and web development services.
The company has grown substantially over the last few years, and received a significant boost in April last year when JSE listed Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) announced the acquisition of 100% of the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Over the last 12 months ATC grew from 28 staff members to 55 employees, and according to Wayne de Nobrega, CEO of Altech Technology Concepts, they are set to double their revenue this year from the previous R34 million to close to R70 million.
Becoming a first tier provider
ATC has decided to take the next step and roll out their own managed network with multiple international links into Europe. The primary data centre will be housed in Teraco’s premise in Johannesburg.
Completion of the Johannesburg leg of the project is projected to be 1 November 2010 and will be followed shortly thereafter by Cape Town and Durban in the early part of 2011, effectively providing ATC with a national footprint.
“ATC’s offering will be a fully-integrated one-stop-voice-and-data shop that includes high speed internet access, next generation Voice over IP (VoIP), a fully comprehensive managed services portfolio, hosting and storage,” says de Nobrega.
“The new network backbone has been designed to maximize the key principles of resiliency and redundancy and as such, has been architected to be both robust and scalable, using only the latest and most technologically advanced next generation equipment and systems.”
International redundancy will be provided through the use of two independent cable systems, namely Seacom and SAT-3.
Altech is an anchor tenant with Seacom and currently has 2 STM-16s which effectively affords ATC and its clients the connectivity capacity equivalent to 5Gbps. ATC will terminate part of this capacity in South Africa and scale up as demand dictates.
ATC has also procured substantial capacity on SAT-3 ensuring full redundancy on the undersea cable systems. ATC clients will be able to connect into this managed network using a variety of connectivity media such as fibre, leased lines, ADSL, wireless, microwave and ATC’s hugely successful bonded ADSL technology.
“The ATC network has been designed utilizing international best practices and will be based primarily on Cisco’s latest range of products. This will ensure that our clients will benefit from managed services which run at lightning speed over a stable next generation network,” explains de Nobrega.
“An added benefit of the ATC network is that it provides for the convergence of data and voice. Convergence has been achieved through the implementation of a VoIP-based switch with the appropriate inter-connect agreements. ATC will therefore be able to offer voice-enabled solutions to customers as part of our managed services product set.”
