Digital Dzonga Council Announced Friday
The Minister of Communications, General Siphiwe Nyanda will announce the new members of the Digital Dzonga Advisory Council. The Council will advise the Minister on, and oversee the process of, South Africa’s migration from analogue broadcasting services to the new digital terrestrial television.
Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda dissolved the original council appointed in 2008 to advise him on South Africa’s transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting when he received a report “suggesting a possible conflict of interest” among some of the council memebers.
His ministry said in a statement that the conflict arose from “the fact that most members are employed by organisations that have interests, directly or indirectly, in the value chain of the migration process.”
According to the Department of Communications, the new council will consists of 15 representatives from every sector of the Information and Communications Technology industry including the IT, broadcasting, labour and consumer groups.
