Telkom’s Enzo Scarcella leaves for MTN

MTN Group has appointed Enzo Scarcella as chief operating officer of its South African unit, according to Bloomberg.

Scarcella is leaving his role as chief marketing officer at Telkom after spending three years at the company.

Prior to joining Telkom, Scarcella was a strategy and marketing executive at Vodacom from 2008 to 2013.

According to the report, Scarcella’s move is yet to be officially announced by MTN. Scarcella declined to comment when contacted.

Scarcella is one of several “high-level managers” brought in by MTN ahead of new CEO Rob Shuter’s arrival, stated Bloomberg.

MTN declined to comment on the matter.

Update: MTN confirms appointment

MTN South Africa has appointed Enzo Scarcella as the new Chief Operating Officer, effective 01 December 2016.

Enzo started his illustrious career at MTN in 1995 where he served as product manager.

Before he agreed to assume the COO role at MTN SA, Enzo was the Chief Marketing Officer of Telkom, and prior to that he served in various roles for Vodacom including as Managing Executive of Marketing.

He has extensive brand and marketing experience, and has worked in the broadcasting, retail, and fast moving goods industries.

He served as brand manager for South African Breweries and Guinness in the United Kingdom, and worked at Edcon and M-Net where he served in the role of Strategy and Marketing Executive and Marketing Executive respectively.

He has a Bachelors of Arts (Honours) degree from Harvard University and a Master’s qualification from Cambridge University.
