SEACOM outage postponed until April
SEACOM last week informed their clients that maintenance on electronic equipment on the SEA-ME-WE 4 (SMW4) cable, which connects SEACOM clients to London and Mumbai, will take place from 6 February and 10 February and will cause an outage to their clients.
“SEACOM has been advised that the SMW4 cable will undergo emergency undersea maintenance on the segment between Alexandria (Egypt) and Marseille (France) from 6 February 2011 to 10 February 2011 (tentative). SEACOM’s network uses the SMW4 cable to link from India to Europe while it finalizes its own link through Egypt within the coming months,” the company said in a blog post.
SEACOM organized backup bandwidth to its clients to London, and local ISPs like MWEB indicated that they were set to use this solution from SEACOM to minimize the impact on their clients.
“With 110 Gbps of active capacity on its network and a range of tailored restoration plans available almost instantaneously for all of its clients, SEACOM is able to provide uninterrupted service during occurrences of connectivity issues,” SEACOM said.
However, SEACOM said today that the SMW4 planned event scheduled for 6th-10th February 2011 has been postponed by the SMW4 management consortium until at least April 2011.
The reason for this postponement has not been communicated by SEACOM.
